Some older series help keep Netflix stranglehold on streaming ratings
-
- Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) continued dominating the streaming video
ratings from Nielsen, with its Shondaland original *Bridgerton
*topping
the overall charts with its fifth straight billion-minute week.
- The streaming leader took all of the top 10 spots in Nielsen's most
recent viewing week (Jan. 18-24), after some holiday plays from rivals
tailed off, and with some older long-running series logging lots of
eyeballs.
- *Bridgerton *recorded 1.061B minutes streamed according to
Nielsen's metric, better than *Criminal Minds* (939M minutes) and
*Grey's
Anatomy* (754M minutes) - though those two series sport episode
counts of 297 and 366 respectively, vs. just 8 for *Bridgerton.*
- All three of those series came in ahead of new entrant *Henry
Danger,* a Nickelodeon series that has its first three series on
Netflix and was fourth-best with 731M minutes, ahead of *Cobra Kai*
and *Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer* with 727M minutes
streamed each.
- Rounding out the overall top 10: No. 7, *Mariposa de Barrio,* 705M
minutes; No. 8, *Schitt's Creek, *671M minutes; No. 9, *Fate: The
Winx Saga,* 670M minutes; and No. 10, movie *Outside the Wire,* 553M
minutes.
- And while *Outside the Wire* was the only movie to crack the
overall top 10, the movie chart is where Netflix rivals Disney Plus
(NYSE:DIS) and Amazon Prime Video (NASDAQ:AMZN) are making any dents.
(Nielsen's figures incorporate viewing from four major streamers:
Netflix,
Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, and Hulu (DIS).)
- Disney Plus dropped four movies on the movie top 10: *Soul *at No.
4 with 266M minutes streamed; *Moana *at No. 6 with 200M minutes;
*Frozen
II* at No. 8 with 156M minutes; and *Beauty and the Beast* at No. 10
with 127M minutes. And Amazon dropped in at No. 9 with *One Night in
Miami* (140M minutes).
- Netflix also unsurprisingly took all 10 slots on the
acquired-series chart; and with the end of season 2 of *The
Mandalorian* dropping back in the rear-view mirror, Disney's only
entry on the original-series chart is *WandaVision,* the seventh-most
viewed series with 376M minutes.
