Stocks edge up, but Intel worries weigh on gains
- The broader market is moving higher, but technology could be an anchor
on gains after big disappointment from Intel's results.
- The S&P (SP500) is up 0.3%, the Nasdaq (COMP) is up 0.1% and the Dow (
DJI) is up 0.2%.
- Technology (NYSEARCA:XLK) is the one sector to start in the red, with
Intel falling 10%. The Fab 5 megacaps are mostly higher, but gains are
muted.
- Cyclicals are picking up where they left off at yesterday's close.
Energy (NYSEARCA:XLE) is extending sharp gains yesterday to take the
lead, looking to finish out the week with a rare gain.
- Financials (NYSEARCA:XLF) are climbing as yields continue to edge up.
The 10-year Treasury yield is looking for its seventh day in row with a
rise.
- White House Adviser Larry Kudlow gave what appears to be a very
realistic assessment of fiscal stimulus negotiations this morning. He
says
both sides are taking the discussions day to day, there are issues like
state and local aid where they are still at loggerheads and the "ball
isn't
moving very much".
