SAP jumps 4.2% as Google to switch to its financial software from Oracle
- Alphabet and Google (GOOG+4.2%, GOOGL+4.3%) will stop using Oracle (
ORCL+3.3%) for its internal financial software in the next few weeks,
CNBC reports.
- It will instead switch to SAP, according to the report. SAP shares
have jumped 4.2% on the NYSE in response.
- But there's no indication that Alphabet/Google is moving any other
systems off Oracle software.
- And the move doesn't appear to be tied to the long-running copyright
lawsuit between the two companies, which the Supreme Court decided in
Google's favor today.
- It does point to the prospect of friction between two companies that
compete in selling public cloud resources for hosting applications.
- And it's not an easy switch: Getting off of Oracle's financial
software called for months of work and extensive engineering resources,
according to the report.
